Single Tennis Holidays: Getting off the Grid on Mallorca

Tennis on Mallorca’s West Coast is the Best Coast for Your Game

Tennis on Mallorca’s west coast is the best coast for your tennis game. Why the west? Well, FAR from Magaluf sits a lovely little bay where you can get away, for real. The temperatures feel milder in this little slice of refreshing. So hitting a mountain of tennis balls doesn’t feel like you’re hitting them inside a Bikram’s yoga studio. It helps having the base of the Tramuntana mountains to your back and the sea in front. Prices are fair for travelers on Mallorca (another draw) compared to other tourist gouging spots to play like France & Italy. And while Port de Soller’s still a wee bit bougee & special, … it’s also totally down to earth😎.

Mallorca’s, Port de Soller, next to Deia & Valldemossa is a trifecta of local magic with it’s lovely street music, art houses, Mallorquin cuisine, tapas & fresh afternoon cocktails😋. Close by are some laid-back chillout spots. Perfect at sunset where locals & visitors share space together. If you’re anything like me, you’ll quickly wonder if this lifestyle is for real!? Do people live this way all the time? And if so, how can I have a slice of it more often. Next, you’ll be eyeing the real estate listings displayed on the realtors store fronts. Don’t worry, everybody does it.

The largest of the Balearic islands, Mallorca already had a tennis name as home to both world #1 ATP players, Rafa Nadal & Carlos Moya. Years later, Rafa decides to open his academy close to home😉. Then Rafa & Uncle Tony hire Carlos Moya & a plethora of other high powered coaches to teach here & groom the next up & coming players. And voilà, every one wanted to come play tennis on Mallorca. AANNDD it has 2 high profile Masters tournaments each year! So Mallorca’s a contender in the tennis world for sure. (P.S. Tennis is spelled TENIS here)

Your Independent Game

Because we specialize in adults, we want the week to feel special, like it’s made for adults. A complaint I’d get doing my adult camps at the Rafa Nadal Academy. The Nadal Academy’s great for a night or two but an entire week out in Manacor (middle of nowhere) with the kids, didn’t cut it for most adult players.

Our goal isn’t to make you the next Rodger Federer. It’s to take what you do naturally well and mix in helpful footwork to give you better balance, control and feel in charge. The right footwork, swing paths & contact point tweaks (you likely call them “tips”) will have you playing with grace & power so you FEEL like Federer on court.

Personalized adult coaching makes YOU the star for the week. My goal is to make sure you leave with noticeable improvement. Give you simple tips around court position & drill patterns so you play matches like you know what you’re doing out there. And don’t tell me you don’t want to play matches. Because there’s a lot of people in this game. And part of the fun of the game is meeting and playing with people. So you want to be able to rely on your tennis strokes, play the ball well & pick the right shots better when you play back at home. That requires you practice points each day on your tennis holiday with us. Because practice makes perfect, right? Even Federer knows, NO ONE has a perfect day every days. But we try. And your personal best is our goal. Corny? totally. But I mean that.

On Mallorca´s west coast, at Hotel Es Port, a converted 16th century villa is where you’ll play and stay. The hotel has any amenity you can think of with a plethora of entertainment right out front of the hotel, 32 meters alongside the sea. From the hotel you can rent a car and go off exploring your afternoons away at a cozy beach cala or take advantage of the hotel indoor & outdoor pools perfect to relax close by. You can remote work, dine al fresco, opt for needed spa treatments or chillout with a cocktail on the property.

You can’t help but feel you’ve gone off grid.

The beauty of Mallorca will always be away from the masses! It’s secluded natural beach coves and seaside villages are charming are what the island’s known for. I still get overwhelmed by its beauty. You can also stay where you’d like, bring a group, come with a partner to play solely to improve your game with adult tennis lessons a la carte.

Single Tennis Holidays: What are they and who are they for?

You’d be surprised the questions I receive about single tennis holidays. What exactly are they, who are they for and are they to meet people or need to play singles. All valid questions.

Single tennis holidays are coaching holidays used to improve your tennis game. But they’re set in a location you’d really like to visit at the same time. You’ll find adults 24 yrs + through 75. They don’t require you to play singles as opposed to doubles. And they aren’t weeks dedicated to singles over doubles. They’re also not coaching weeks for single people as opposed to married or it’s complicated status They’re coaching holidays for adults in unique popular travel destinations.

Little inside scoop here …

Growing up in the USA around tennis, we didn’t call coaching holidays - holidays at all. They’re tennis vacations, or adult tennis camps or even tennis trips. In Europe, they’re referred to as tennis holidays. And no matter who or where you travel to play - pretty much all players travel solo.

95% of my players (adults) travel solo. Or travel with another tennis player or doubles partner. And they arrive from all countries. I’ve played with players from over 32 countries. It’s always interesting. And that’s also the point. Come to Indie Tenis for an experience. Not more of the same. There are tennis holiday companies that don’t say it but cater to the particular countries. So you might go on a tennis holiday and find only Germans, or folks from the UK or Sweden. But here it’s open with the intention to learn how other countries fare at your level from around the world. That’s what makes it interesting. Not that it feels safer because everyone has the same accent.

Single Tennis Holiday: Why choose a coaching holiday?

Single Tennis Holidays on Mallorca

Choose a coaching holiday to fix something that’s broken. To play a new court surface. To get out of your routine for a week. Consider it your call to adventure. I know it’s comfortable playing in your club with people you know or are familiar with. Knowing what to expect. But after this crazy pandemic. It’s nice to shake it up a bit. And if you’re an adult, learning how to play tennis, start here.

Using tennis to travel? You can’t go wrong. Simply because the one thing you know for sure? The other players traveling with you, also like tennis and TRAVEL.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve watched connections made on tennis holidays. Even a romance or two! My players meet up year after year for another tennis trip or just to meet up again together. This is likely my favorite part. The friendships made.

75% of my adult players, play club back at home. And post covid I’m making a strong push to get new players in the game so the game continues to grow. I’m convinced that new players can enjoy the game faster with key coaching. That they can actually be able to play with coaches who know and have the patience & emotional intelligence to really guide newer players.

Singles Tennis Holidays: Weekly training by level

All Indie TENIS single tennis holidays are by level. The largest pool of international adult players around the world fall into the intermediate category.

I mentioned earlier, I love a court ratio at 1:3 but can go as high as 1:4. Never higher. Because you won’t hit as many balls. This is something we believe in strongly. Improving your game. Other adult tennis holidays will have large groups and place more than 4 on court. There’s very little benefit to you with more than 4 players on 1 tennis court. This is what sets us apart. We take your tennis improvement seriously.

You want more balls, not less!

Tennis training starts on Monday morning (finishes before lunch at 1:00) includes 3 hrs. each morning through Friday. The court surfaces are clay court & hard, so it’s important to bring all-court tennis shoes. Likely you’re wearing these already.

Players arrive and check-in on Sunday and typically leave the following Saturday. A total of 15 hrs. on court works your 5 core strokes and serving every day. Each day the last hour of training is dedicated to friendly point play around singles or doubles. After 15 hrs. we’ve covered a lot of territory and shared a lotta laughs.

The thing that makes tennis so fun is when you confidently know how to play it. I’m referring to strategy on court. Simple strategies benefit and deepen your game. And if you enjoy doubles as most adults do, there’s a lot of moving together, coverage and knowing where you should be on-court and what’s your responsibility. We’ll drill down on all of that.

The idea of a singles tennis holiday is to encourage not intimidate.

Off-Court in Mallorca

I love to do a group casual tapas dinner the 1st night. Get to know each other, and give you tips where you’re staying. I encourage exploring some special beach calas, getting into Palma on the vintage train and often setting up an afternoon trip out to see the Rafa Nadal Academy Museum.

And I’ll remind you that Port de Soller, a charming seaport, is packed with cafes, restaurants, bars and great people watching.

You really can’t go wrong.

With love from Mallorca~
